Knowing God – Prayer and Fasting Testimony 2013

For the past 4 years, I have always been excited to start the year with our church’s yearly prayer and fasting week. It was the time to detoxify myself from a lot of things and just spend moments with God in prayer. From those 4 times that I have joined the prayer and fasting week, God has always shown himself to me. But this year is probably the most memorable prayer and fasting week I have experienced. Honestly, it was only this year that I stopped viewing fasting as a hunger strike or a way to get what I wanted from God through prayer. Despite the prayer concerns that I had, I made it my focus to just get closer to God. To deny my flesh of its desire for food so that I may be more sensitive in my spirit, and hear God to get to know Him more. And God  revealed himself to me from day one!

Day 1, I started having devotions but I didn’t use the CCF provided devotional yet. From the two devotionals that I read, I was able to get the same message. It talked about how important the word of God is and how complete it is in itself for us to be able to know Him. To my surprise, when I went through the devotional for day 1 on the CCF booklet, I received the same message. What really struck me was Exodus 3:13.

“Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight.”

This was Moses speaking to God asking God to let him know God’s ways so he can know Him. True enough, the ways of God is seen in the bible, so for us to know his ways and thus know Him, we really need to get to know his word.

Day 2 came and I was feeling more determined to have my devotions every morning. It was another wonderful time with the Lord! I was already familiar with the verses – and so that was what I taught. As I deeply reflected on the set of verses for that day, 2 Timothy 3:5 was my biggest take away.

“holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power…”

I was really drawn in. I have read this verse before but I haven’t really been able to take the time to contemplate what it really meant. So I studied it and even searched on Google just to understand the context and what “denying its power” meant. God was really working. As he revealed to me the truth behind this verse, I realized I was holding on to this form of godliness. He showed me that I have always been disciplined with my devotions as my own form of godliness but I have seldom appreciated the power behind it. He showed me that my quiet times or devotions have become more of a requirement or a strict disciple that I needed to do. That the only value that I got from it sometimes was that I was able to do it. He showed me that I lacked the time to reflect on his word and study it to get to know Him more. That’s probably the reason why my devotions haven’t been that powerful for the past months. It really blew my mind away! I have seen, even for just two days, the real value of reflecting and studying His word. It was such a powerful realization that I didn’t just feel God speaking to me, He was so real in my life.

The next couple of days were a series of times spent with the Lord and getting to know Him. Each verse I read, I really took the time to study it, and it felt like I was really chewing on food for my spirit. The next couple of days felt even more amazing and just like Moses in Exodus 33:11, I felt He was talking to me face to face. I felt I was truly that man being talked to by a friend, and that friend is my God. What God showed me was a lot! I took notes of all of my lessons, from getting to know who He is to instances where He showed me areas in my life that I needed to change in order to be more like Him. And all the things He showed me that I needed to change has the assurance of the power that we have in Him just as I have learned in day 5. We sometimes don’t realize the spiritual blessings we have – Day 4. We have that power from God which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead to help us change and overcome the struggles that we have in life.

This is my prayer and fasting testimony. I stand as a testimony that if we draw near to God he will definitely draw near to us. I am still waiting in all honesty, for my prayers to be answered. I have a lot of prayer concerns for the B1G South ministry, my work and even my personal life. I do not know when they will be answered but right now that really doesn’t matter to me. What I have gained this prayer and fasting week surpasses more than the expectation that my prayers will be answered. What I gained is knowledge and experience of our great God and I wouldn’t trade that for anything else in the world. Yes, I would love my specific prayer concerns, in areas of my life to be answered, but He was already answered my one major request and that is to know Him more and experience Him. Because I know with the Lord, I lack no good thing. To Him be the glory forever.

If you have a testimony of how your prayers was also answered, you can leave a comment below.

Thank you Lord

A letter to God based on what i learned from Ephesians 1:3-14.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

12 God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

God, everything has been planned long ago. How you wanted us to be part of your family is something that gave you much pleasure. I really don’t deserve it. Thank you Lord. Thank you for this freedom you have given me. I was a slave – a slave to sin. As a slave, you purchased my freedom and have even adopted me as your son. All of these things happened not because I am worthy of such but because of your glorious grace and kindness. What can I do but praise you and thank you? We praise you for your kindness. Because of your kindness we have wisdom and understanding.

The grace and kindness that you gave us is shown through what Christ has done. All of these blessings are because of our unity in Christ, by believing in His name. Again, I truly thank you for what you have done. I stand only because of grace. If it was not for grace, where would I be? This is seems such a short and simple thank you letter to you. But I know you know my heart and it is exploding with gratefulness right now.

I love you,
