What is the significance of the resurrection to you

The gospel is the greatest example of God’s love for mankind. Jesus came to the earth as a man, died for our sins and was resurrected on the third day. But I suddenly realized while contemplating on a Sunday message, what is really the significance of the resurrection for me. I have always been overwhelmed at the love of God displayed through the cross. Numerous sermons and preaching’s have moved me to really love God because He loved me first. When I asked myself, “Why haven’t I gave any real significance in the resurrection but have always focused on the crucifixion?” I suddenly realized I haven’t really given this much thought.

Now after meditating on that thought and reflecting on God’s word, I want to share three things regarding the significance of the resurrection to you and me.

1. He resurrected, therefore He is alive!

Jesus was sent not only to die for the sins of mankind. For without shedding of the blood there is no forgiveness of sin. That was part of the plan but this includes being resurrected.

22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22)

After his finished work, He rose back to life. His work was finished (John 19:30) and now He is alive to be with us. His finished work on the cross gave us the confidence to enter his presence and have a relationship with Him. With this relationship, we have a God who is always there for us. Jesus is alive and understands what we are going through.

15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15)

He is alive to help us in our problems. He is alive to show us his great love for us. What a great truth to ponder on! We have a God who died for our sins and is alive. He is not someone who remained in the grave and cannot hear us or even have a relationship with us. He is alive!

2. Victory over sin.

His resurrection conquered sin. Sin no longer has any grip in our lives. We are no longer slaves to our sinful nature. Before we came to know Jesus, we didn’t have a choice. All of our choices were made by our sinful nature. But when we came to know Christ, what He has done on the cross and his resurrection, we were given a new self. A nature that has the power to say no to sin – the power to be victorious over sin.

Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)

17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:17)

This is the power that lives in you! Don’t take it for granted. It is the Holy Spirit living inside of you. You only need to yield to Him and his work in your life. You can live a victorious Christian life!

 3. Victory over death.

His resurrection conquered death! It conquered sin and sin leads to death – Romans 6:23. But does this mean we will no longer die? Death means “separation” and what Jesus conquered was eternal separation from Him. He conquered death and gave us a way into eternal life. A life that is spent with Him forever and nothing can separate us there from Him.

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

The resurrection of Jesus is very vital. Our faith is futile, as Paul has mentioned, if Christ has not been resurrected. But He has! That is one major truth that we can bank on. I pray and hope that as we daily walk by faith that we will always take hold of this truth. He is alive. There is no one like Him!
